We are proud to announce the release of the Profile of Poverty in Kabupaten Sanggau for March 2024. This statistical report highlights significant insights and trends in poverty levels within the region, providing valuable information for policymakers, researchers, and the general public.

Key Highlights

1. Decrease in Poverty Rate

The percentage of the poor population in March 2024 was 4.67%, a decrease of 0.12 percentage points from March 2023. The number of poor people in March 2024 was 23.02 thousand, down by 0.32 thousand compared to March 2023.

2. Poverty Line Increase

The poverty line in March 2024 was recorded at IDR 440,303 per capita per month, an increase of 5.8% compared to March 2023, which was IDR 416,112 per capita per month.

3. Depth of Poverty Index (P1)

The Depth of Poverty Index (P1) in March 2024 was 0.452, showing a decrease compared to 2023, which was 0.55. This indicates that the average expenditure of the poor population in March 2024 was closer to the poverty line compared to March 2023.

4. Severity of Poverty Index (P2)

The Severity of Poverty Index (P2) in March 2024 was 0.082, also showing a decrease compared to March 2023, which was 0.11. This reduction indicates a lessening disparity in the expenditure among the poor.

Trends in Poverty Rate, March 2019 - March 2024

The poverty rate in Kabupaten Sanggau fluctuated between March 2019 and March 2024. The lowest poverty rate was observed in March 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, while the highest rate was recorded in March 2023. The poverty rate in March 2024 saw a slight decrease, positioning Kabupaten Sanggau as having the fourth lowest poverty rate after Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kota Pontianak, and Kota Singkawang.

The poverty line represents the minimum expenditure required for food and non-food needs. The poverty line tends to increase annually due to inflation and rising living costs. In March 2024, the poverty line rose to IDR 440,303 per capita per month, up from IDR 416,112 in March 2023.

Depth of Poverty Index Trends, March 2019 - March 2024

The Depth of Poverty Index (P1) measures the average gap between the expenditures of the poor and the poverty line. A lower P1 index indicates that the poor population's expenditures are closer to the poverty line. The P1 index has shown fluctuations over the years, with the lowest recorded in March 2024 at 0.452.

Severity of Poverty Index Trends, March 2019 - March 2024

The Severity of Poverty Index (P2) assesses the disparity in expenditure among the poor. A lower P2 index suggests a more even distribution of expenditure among the poor. The P2 index has also fluctuated, reaching its lowest in March 2024 at 0.082.

Regional Comparison of Poverty Levels

In March 2024, the poor population in West Kalimantan totaled 336.08 thousand people, a decrease of 17.27 thousand from March 2023. Kabupaten Ketapang had the highest number of poor people, while Kabupaten Kayong Utara had the least. Kabupaten Sanggau ranked 8th in terms of the number of poor people, with 23.02 thousand individuals.

Economic and Social Conditions Influencing Poverty (March 2023 - March 2024)

Several factors influenced poverty levels in Kabupaten Sanggau:

1. Open Unemployment Rate (TPT): Increased from 3.76% in August 2022 to 3.86% in August 2023.

2. Economic Growth: West Kalimantan's economy grew by 4.98% year-on-year in Q1 2024.

3. Inflation: Annual inflation was relatively low at 2.51% in March 2024.

4. Farmer's Exchange Rate (NTP): Increased by 4.35% in March 2024.

5. Paddy Harvest Area: Increased by 8% in Q1 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

6. Commodity Prices: Palm oil prices remained stable, while rubber prices increased.
