On August 19, 2024, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Sanggau Regency held an internal meeting led by Murohman, SST, S.E., M.Si., to evaluate the progress of the August 2024 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas). The meeting was attended by the Head of the Labor Statistics Team, Admin, and the August 2024 Sakernas PML (Field Supervisors).
During the evaluation, it was reported that out of the 602 targeted assignments, 409 assignments had been completed and data submitted, accounting for 67.94% of the target. Field data collection progress also showed that enumeration had been completed for 559 households, reaching 92.86% of the target. However, only 22.43% or 135 assignments had been reviewed and approved by the PML.
Despite significant achievements, the BPS Sanggau Regency team faced various challenges during the implementation of the Sakernas survey, including:
· PCL Busyness: Several Field Enumeration Officers (PCL) faced obstacles due to the preparation and execution of Independence Day celebrations in their residential areas.
· Technical Issues: Reports indicated issues with the officers' devices, such as slow questionnaire loading, sudden application exits during FASIH data entry, and other application errors. Some officers resorted to using paper questionnaires provided during training and transcribing them into FASIH at home.
· Device Specifications: Devices with minimum specifications posed challenges in optimal use of the FASIH application.
· Weather Conditions: Heavy rains hindered officers from reaching the sampled census blocks.
· Moral Hazard: Concerns about moral hazard related to nonresponse of sample households. PML was instructed to re-examine any indications of nonresponse.
To address these challenges, BPS Sanggau Regency developed several strategies to ensure the smooth execution and quality of data collection:
· Regular Follow-ups: PMLs are required to regularly encourage and follow up with officers to submit data in FASIH promptly.
· Strict Supervision: Supervision will be intensified, especially if there are still officers who have not completed field data collection by August 20, 2024.
· Monitoring Progress: Data collection progress will be continuously monitored and communicated to PCLs through the August 2024 Sakernas WhatsApp group.
· Cross-checking Data: A cross-check of panel household data with the results of the February 2024 Sakernas will be conducted to ensure data consistency.
· Anomaly Data Check: When the SQL anomaly is accessible, data anomalies will be checked to ensure accuracy and validity.
In addition, to maintain data quality, PMLs are required to fill out supervision forms to capture labor phenomena in the sampled census blocks, while subject matter experts will monitor data tabulation regularly.
According to the letter from the Head of BPS West Kalimantan Province, the Sakernas data collection in Sanggau Regency must reach 100% by August 20, 2024. Each PML is committed to overseeing the data collection process until it is completed according to the target set.
With the strategies in place, BPS Sanggau Regency is optimistic about completing the August 2024 Sakernas data collection on time and maintaining data quality. Support from the entire team is highly expected to achieve this success.
Conclusion
This evaluation meeting served as an important moment for BPS Sanggau Regency to ensure that the August 2024 Sakernas data collection runs smoothly despite various challenges. With teamwork and commitment, the data collection target can be achieved, providing accurate and reliable data for labor statistics in Sanggau Regency.
