According to the 2023 Agricultural Census data, 78.2% of individual farming businesses in Sanggau Regency rely primarily on rain-fed water sources. Only a small portion utilizes surface irrigation (18.6%), while even fewer use groundwater irrigation (1.1%) or other types of irrigation systems (1.6%).
This highlights the challenges many farmers face, particularly during dry seasons. On the other hand, it also reveals a significant potential for developing more integrated irrigation systems. By expanding the adoption of irrigation technology, agricultural productivity can be significantly improved, and the risk of crop failure due to drought can be minimized.
Developing irrigation systems requires collaborative efforts, including farmer training, improved access to technology, and adequate irrigation infrastructure. These steps will not only strengthen the agricultural sector but also ensure food security for the community in the future.
